The root issue that I think it comes down to is, and I believe Liddy himself said this, that it was &quot;distasteful&quot; -- it couldn&#039;t have come at a worse time for taxpayers. Yet, these are all byproducts of government interaction in the marketplace. As you mentioned, if AIG had fallen into bankruptcy there would be no salaries and no bonuses. The government has kept them in business, and a part of biz is honoring your contractual agreements. What else is there to say.</description>
