I hope so. Doesn't look like Chase is looking to do anything like that, but one would hope other large banks, and small banks for that matter, would start doing some more consumer friendly directives.

They probably should, but it's not close to feasible for anyone to expect that insurance companies will send someone to visit every property they insure. That would be like having every car insurance send someone to inspect your car before they insure you. I guess, as the consumer, if I buy a house today and I'm told that I can't insure it for six months because that's how long it will take to get someone from the company to come out and inspect my house, that I wouldn't be all that appreciative or happy about things.

Good move Tim, but of course we probably wish credit cards would do the same thing, and not all of them do.

Good step from BofA. And they are the first bank to do so. Hats off to BofA. Now its interesting to watch what other Banks will do in this crunch time. My guess is no choice for other Banks and they will follow suit sooner than later. End of the day customers are going to benefit.

"It’s hard to be mad at State Farm in this instance." - Its tough to agree with State Farm. They are complaining about crooked contractors who didn't build the houses as expected. Then isn't it the job of State Farm to check it even before they had given the homeowners insurances?

On a similar note, when you get emails be sure to check the following which will help you catch 80% of the scam mails.
1. See if the mail addresses you by your name or a general greeting(eg: Hi, Hello, Respected Sir etc). If its the latter you have to be careful since it might be a mass scam mail.
2. The grammar mistakes in the mail should alert you since most of these scam mails bound to have some.
3. Check the email address. For instance if your bank website is MyBank.com then the email address can be something like support@MyBankOnline.com etc.
4. Always use Google to see if you can find any information about the email address, phone number, name etc which they refer to.

Now i see the disclaimer smaller in size and also the link to AnnualCreditReport.com is removed. Just the message is displayed without the hyper link. This is another gimmick to retain atleast the lazy ones who would have otherwise reached AnnualCreditReport.com through the hyper link. Still FTC has done a decent job.

That's my hope. Even with some of the protections, it could end up costing someone upwards of $100 a day in fees.

Actually Tim, I read where there's been talk that if Citigroup can't survive on its own and needs help again that it might be broken up, in which case there will be one less sneaky bully on the block to deal with.

Also, I don't think banks will start being able to totally sustain themselves again until unemployment makes a drastic recovery.

I'll probably opt out of protection and others should consider it too -- if the money's not there,we shouldn't be spending it.

I know things happen, but this could help all of us manage money a little better.

Hey Mitch,

I'm kind of actually surprised to hear Sheila say that...I had thought (I guess more like hoped) that failures would have diminished by now. But as you said, maybe this is a "weeding out" process that will separate the good from the bad.

The number of troubled banks alone doesn't scare me too much, because, as you noted, only a small majority fail. Unfortunately for you, haha, Citigroup is Washington's property so they'll stick around no matter how troubled.

Talk to you soon,
Tim

I so agree with you regarding the loan modification process. When I first started mine, I had no idea I would only get approved for a temporary modification. I am still trying to get approved for a permanent one six months later.

My thoughts exactly Tim. For me, it really put into question the Republican wish that people get their money instead of getting it the way they do now through Social Security and allowing them to invest it. What would have happened to government money last year if suddenly more than half the elderly had absolutely nothing coming in from the government and absolutely nothing left in the stock market? Very scary proposition if you ask me. www.csa-acd.com

Trying to time the top of the stock market is lost cause -- for me at least. There's so much that influences it, and when you get down to it, it's mostly controlled by speculators anyway.

On a separate but related topic (perhaps a good topic for you to cover), when the market crashed, it really showcased how vulnerable American retirement savings are, and how wrapped up they are in stocks. Hopefully we can learn from this catastrophe so it won't happen again.

Thanks,
Tim
