If I hadn't started this blog, I'd have been caught off guard by Circuit City's closing also. As far as the banks are concerned, I have little sympathy for most of them because I believe they set up the predatory lending thing to begin with, and thus brought about what's going on. They haven't tried to work with any of these people who've been foreclosed upon, and let's face the fact that getting something for awhile, even if it's half of what the mortgages really are, is better than getting nothing and absorbing a house they can't sell in this market anyway.

Still, I'm ready for the economy to turn around and start improving; my portfolio needs a break!

Hey Mitch, I found this post from your other blog and it's so true! A lot of the stocks in my portfolio took a dive and as much as I would say the retail has hurt it, I think the banks are the real crutch. The last few days, all of the banks have dove a good amount, with bank of america having cut in half in 4 days!

Yet still, the affect on retail is clearly there, as I'm still shocked by Circuit City's complete closure.

They certainly are, and you called the Goody's thing right on the nose. Still, that's just going to make the recovery seem that much more remarkable!

That's quite a depressing list of links you've got there. Things are getting scarier each day it seems!
