Here are some numbers to think about. According to a recent report from the Congressional Budget Office, the govt has spent $230 billion on housing rescue initiatives in 2009 (that number doesn&#039;t include money for Fannie/Freddie, FHA, subsidized rates, etc.). 

Based on the national median home price, Washington could have bought about 1.3 million homes outright. If that happened, there would be a lot less redefaults and trial-only mods to deal with.

It may sound crazy, but what&#039;s crazy is dumping billion after billion into programs that aren&#039;t working.
