Second, you’re right, it is about greed to a degree, but this guy had the pedigree that people look for, and thus, if I’d had money, I might have thought it was the way to go myself. That’s why he’s the worst of the bunch, because he would have been rich in either case.

But there is also a greed part involved from the investors part. They should not provide the necessary fuel for these guys to run on.

(Did I write Mitch instead of Dennis this time? Double check it to be sure! Yes, I did.)

That’s what I get for visiting too many blogs in one evening.

As far as Madoff is concerned, you may be right.

Yes, he’s now in jail, and that’s where he deserves to be. Course, now he’s looking for probation, to await sentencing, and I’m of the opinion that if they let him out, he’s gone!

As I said, I’m not following this very closely, but I think I heard that Madoff plead guilty to a number of charges and likely will spend the rest of his life in prison.

That’s more appropriate than living in a luxury apartment, but still doesn’t do much for all the people he stole from.

I have to admit that I’ve been following this scandal very little, but I think you have summarized it well.

You say there’s something inherently wrong with his current punishment, and I could not agree more.

This is greed, fraud, and theft on a scale that is almost unimaginable, and – so far – he has had to pay very little for what he’s done.

I don’t want to trivialize any of this by saying, “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”

Still, that’s time-tested advice that I think more people need to heed. It’s hard to earn money and even harder to keep it.
