I'm not only NOT a handy man, but the hospital bills would end up costing more than the roof! That plus I'm not home much, so when I am home, my time goes towards other things. In the Syracuse area, that's a smart move, with our weather.

Where I live most of the roofs are shingle. I've helped neighbors re-shingle and most of the time the new shingles can go on top of the old. It would save a lot of money to do it yourself if possible.

Thanks for the comments, Rick. Number five is actually more specific than you might imagine, but I can't put all my private stuff out there. The taxes are the big thing, because outside of that I owe no one else that's not a recurring expense; how nice is that? There's a certain amount of income that's pretty much guaranteed for this year that will be higher than in 2008, so anything else I can get above and beyond that will go into the savings and any new taxes that might crop up. I'm better prepared for the taxes since I know what the minimum income will be. The roof,... well, that's a joint dream with my wife, and I mentioned to her that all other extraneous expenses will have to wait until the roof is done, since that's more her baby than mine. That won't negate the laptop if mine crashes, though, since I need that for my consulting work. Business expenses don't count; luckily, I don't have enough of those (or unluckily, depending on if you're asking me or my accountant).

I hope you do blog about it; be nice to review and help in any way I could.

You did ask what I think so here goes. Good goals. Seems like #5 isn't very specific. It also depends on the other goals. For example, to get ahead you would have to pay your taxes and fix your roof. Also, I would focus on paying the taxes and fixing the roof and don't have such a high savings goal for this year. Also don't feel like you have to "earn back what I lost" right away.

As for myself I haven't made any goals for the year. I do have a seven year plan that I am two years in to. It is mostly in my head (not good) but I have been keeping to it. Maybe I should blog about it and come back and post a summary in the comments? Anyway good job with your goals.
