Thanks for your comment, Tim. Yeah, when I read that, I knew someone had the opportunity to game the system. I will say that, after today's unanimity with the Republicans, that if it ends up working in any fashion there's going to be a major takeover by the Democrats come 2010. Of course, it could go the same way agains the Democrats, but I'm betting with all my heart that the economy is going to start improving in the second half of the year, related to the stimulus package or not. After all, just how many more jobs could be lost after all this that's happening now?

Mitch,

Great post. I had no idea "Each state has the option of turning down the money from the stimulus package. A few governors have stated that they would turn down the money."

Even if their higher ups will veto their decision to refuse state aid, I really hope those Govs who disapprove of the stimulus do so. When all is said and done, we'll really see their true colors -- we'll really see how much they "actually" hate the bill. They may hate the bill, but they'll never turn down the money.

This is absolutely a fantastic point: "In essence, these governors can say what they want to say now, but in a way, it makes each of them like “teflon”, no matter which way the program goes. They don’t have to commit any further than what they’ve already said. If the stimulus package works, they’ll talk about how they didn’t stand in the way of their state receiving the funds. If it doesn’t work, they can point back to their original comments and say “see, we knew it wouldn’t work”."

I think that sums up politics perfectly.

Again, great post, quite interesting,

Tim Manni
