Good evening, Mitch.

That's what I like - being a surprise a minute!

:)

In reality, I have two granddaughters and one grandson.

My oldest granddaughter is the one starting the photography business.

You'll probably like this, too. When they were born, they had more grandparents, great-grandparents, and even great-great-grandparents than any other kids I know.

We rapidly ran out of nicknames for all of us, so I chose to be called GrandDude, and that's what I'm still known as, by them.

Act on your dream!

I'm glad everyone isn't just giving up, John. I'm certainly not ready to give up, that's for sure.

I didn't know you had a granddaughter; you're a surprise a minute!

Good evening, Mitch.

I found a blog post on 4Imprint's blog that is encouraging new business start-ups by offering 250 imprinted pens free to people starting a new business this month.

Here's the blog and the offer:

Starting a Business Right Now? More Power (and FREE pens) to You!

My granddaughter is just now opening a new photography studio and contacted the author of the post.

Maybe someone else who reads your blog will also believe things will get better financially and start a new business.

I thought you'd be interested in seeing that you're not the only one who believes in the future.

Act on your dream!

Absolutely, Mitch.

Part of the current problems is the lack of confidence. Sure, there are real issues that are going to be hard to solve, but in many ways, the world is about the same as it was back in August.

I'm not trying to be a Pollyanna. I recognize all the mismanagement, incompetence, and some criminal actions that have decimated several industries.

There is reason, however, for hope.

As you said earlier, we were born as a nation of self-confident individuals and I know our ancestors had it much harder than we do now.

Of course, circumstances are different, but, still, I won't bow to unending doom and gloom.

I really don't pay much attention to the Dow Jones Index, other than as a type of barometer. I have no idea how low it will go, but it is, after all, just an index of 30 stocks, and those stocks are changed as Dow Jones decides.

Even with the same numbers, the index doesn't measure the same thing it did a decade ago.

See the following for the changes in the index over the years:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dow_Jones_Industrial_Average

and

http://invest-faq.com/articles/stock-index-djia.html

I would agree that 7,000 is worse than 12,000, but it is not an absolute indicator as some would want us to think.

Keep on being confident and encouraging others, too.

Thanks for responding, John. There was a financial advisor on TV earlier this evening saying that, in her opinion, we still haven't reached the floor. I had hoped that the market wouldn't get less than 7,000, but I've written here that I didn't think it would go as low as 6,500; I hope we don't hit it, and I'm going to try to be as confident as I can. We need someone to step up and be confident, right?

Hi Nikki. I'm still hopeful that by summer we'll see that things have started going in the other direction, but you're right, we do have to hit bottom first. But we will recover, and things will get better, so that we can once again be as decadent as we want to be. lol

Good evening, Mitch.

I commend you for looking for the positive in all that's happening.

When things are getting tough, it can be hard to remember that everything happens in cycles.

I think some people thought that new things brought an economy that would just keep going up forever, but that has never happened before and probably never will.

There are always corrections and changes.

Now, we're on a downtrend, but it will turn around and head back up, one of these days.

If someone has good credit or the financial resources, now may be a good time to invest in real estate or buy stock in companies that are strong.

You know the old adage, "Buy low, sell high."

Now, we can buy low, if we have the resources and the fortitude.

There are always opportunities, whether the markets are going up or down.

Act on your dream!

Hey Mitch,

I am pretty sure you are the FIRST person that I have seen put a positive outlook on the present. I honestly think it will get worse before it gets better, but it WILL get better.

Thanks Tim. With our economy right now, it takes a lot of work trying to find some good just to even try to balance things a little bit.

As for the TALF, in my mind, it's the American equivalent of microloans, not in dollars obviously, but in its unique short term process. It should be interesting to see how the process is going after a month or two, as to whether the banks have loosened up just a little bit, unlike what has been occurring lately.

Mitch,

I must commend you for finding the positive (no matter how hard it is). For a while I was urged by my editors to really seek out the positive. Unfortunately, the situation grew worse and the bad news was merely unavoidable.

Today's launch of the TALF is a great opportunity to jump start consumer credit. At this juncture we have no other option than to hope the new administration's initiatives for the economy will work. What other choice do we really have?

Thanks,
Tim
