Most people don't think of it because that's not how any of us were raised. Our parents said to get a good education so we could get good jobs. No one ever talked about careers, even in college. I'm amazed at how many people that lose a job never even think about how they could use their skills to earn at least some money while they look for something more permanent. Plus, like you mentioned, very few of America's wealthiest got to where they are by working for someone else. I guess that's why I've jumped off the salary ship that I had and am going all out to make it on my own right now.
